VERLAGI.
Verlagi — AboutIndependent publishing house — United Kingdom

The house.

Verlagi is a new independent publishing house. We are building our catalogue from the first book onwards — deliberately small, deliberately selective — and we are honest about being new, because it is the reason we can give every book what it deserves.

What we believe

Our founding list will be deliberately small. Every book must earn its place on it.

We combine experience in UK book production, digital marketing and publishing technology with specialist editors and technical reviewers commissioned title by title.

We are building a catalogue for the long term: selecting carefully, publishing on traditional terms and giving each book the editorial, production and commercial attention it requires.

Who publishes Verlagi

Jamie Rand — founder and publisher. He comes to publishing from its production and commercial side, having built the quoting, ordering, preflight, proofing and production systems used by a UK book printer, alongside a background in digital marketing and search.

That is the practical basis for how Verlagi works. The administrative machinery of publishing — composition, metadata, print files, order handling — is automated, so that the money and the attention go to the parts that cannot be: editorial judgement, specialist review, and design.

Editorial specialists are commissioned title by title rather than kept on staff: structural and copy editors, subject experts for technical review, and an independent proofreader on every book. Each title has a named human responsible for it. Questions about a submission, or about how we work, come straight to [email protected].

How we publish

01

Proper editing — structural, line and copy editing by specialists in the book's subject, not a single pass

02

Real production values — professionally designed, typeset and printed in the UK

03

Commercial attention — every book gets a marketing plan, not just a listing

04

Traditional terms — we invest in the book; authors never pay Verlagi anything

05

Kept in print — we publish for the long term and keep books available

06

A direct relationship — you deal with the people making the decisions

Find good books.
Publish them properly.

That is the whole plan. If you have written one of the good books, we would like to read it.
